Do negative thoughts ever just creep up on you, catching you unaware, and suddenly you just can’t help but thinking about it over and over again? When you get into a situation, do ever just think that you’re just going to fail no matter what you do? Do you ever think that there are things that you just can’t do, and that you can never measure up? Are there times where you continually think about all the bad things in life and how nothing ever goes your way? If you said yes to any of that, you may just have obsessive compulsive negative thinking disorder. It is a disorder wherein you just can’t help but think negative thoughts.

Understand that you just can’t stop thinking about it; the best thing to do is to replace these thoughts with something positive. Not thinking about it will only cause you to obsess about it more and more. So you have to replace these thoughts with something healthier, something that will help you to become a happier person. So, how do you this? Whenever you catch yourself thinking something negative, answer back with something positive. For example you think that you’re going to fail a test, so what do you do? You start thinking, I may not fail. I may actually do well. In fact, I know I can pass and even ace this test. At first, it may be challenging to change the way you think but over time and with practice, it just becomes easier and easier until it comes to a point that you don’t even have to think about it so much. It now becomes something automatic, something that just comes to you naturally.

Overcoming obsessive compulsive negative thinking disorder can make it possible for you to become someone better. It is a chance to start seeing the world in a new light and believing that there is always a silver lining to every cloud. Once you start thinking positively, better things start coming to you and before you know it, you are now where you want to be. You have already attained your goals and you are now happy. In fact, you may even forget that you ever had obsessive compulsive negative thinking disorder.

Obsessive compulsive negative thoughts take off from OCD, or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. It’s pretty much the same minus the compulsive action part. There are some who find obsessive thinking to be a way of life while others lost themselves to it. Certain thoughts can stay in your mind and become a dull, repetitive buzz that you can’t block out. Learn about it and do what it takes to tame or control your thoughts.

Wanting to curb the obsessive compulsive negative thoughts is the first step. You are aware that there is something wrong and you want to take steps to take care of it and that’s good. Other than that all you need is discipline with yourself and sufficient will. Without discipline, you can find that you would fail early on as you give into the destruction. Without will, the process of putting an end to these obsessive compulsive negative thoughts won’t even start at all. There is no magic equipment or anything you can order on infomercials or the internet. It really is all you and no one else can do anything to change how you think unless you let them or want to.

As mentioned, being aware and wanting to curb the obsessive thinking is the first step to all this. You are more or less aware that your thoughts are getting overwhelming. When you do feel that your thoughts are getting overwhelming, stop to take a closer look at just how your thoughts flow.

Take note of your thoughts; you’d be astonished if and when you see that it happens quite often. Observe if thinking with a pessimistic air has turned into an obsession and that you have been doing so for quite some time now. Reflect. Are these obsessive negative thoughts true or are they simply baseless?

Next, try turning everything off. With obsessive compulsive negative thoughts, you’d want to take things down a notch; otherwise it would be hard to deal with. Remember, with this disorder comes much doubting or checking things over and over and recheck things repeatedly too. It’s quite overwhelming.

Also, know that you won’t be an overnight success story. Be realistic but try to be positive all the same. Pretty soon thinking positive would be your habit instead of the pessimistic old one. If you know of any negative thought triggers, stay away from them. Keep straight, follow through and you can do it.

Obsessive compulsive negative thoughts can either be an endless stream of negative or positive thoughts. Have patience and strong will. Know when it’s happening and stop it in its tracks. You are in control. Put that control into good use.

When you master the art of harnessing the power of positive thinking, you can achieve wonders in your life. Believe that when you begin thinking positively, positive results also await you. Like bees to honey, people will be drawn to you and the unmistakable aura of happiness and goodness that surrounds you. Career opportunities will begin to reveal themselves to you and lead you to the path to success.

Harnessing the power of positive thinking requires you to practice positive thinking as much as you can and apply it in everything that you do.  Start by making a list of all your goals in life. Make the list as visual and concrete as possible by adding photos and whatever else that can help you make those goals to be as realistic as possible.

For example, you can add a picture of where you want to get married, add the fabric you want for your dress, pictures of flowers and even a picture of your dream guy.  Have fun with it and be as creative as possible. You can even add more stuff whenever you feel like it. You should own these thoughts and goals so you can make them your reality.

Create a mantra for these goals and repeat them to yourself everyday in front of your mirror. Make sure that you honestly believe in these words or else, they would be just a bunch of words without meaning. You have to choose which words will motivate you more. Assure yourself daily that you have what it takes to achieve your dreams.

Having a positive mental attitude involves having a healthy body and a healthy mind. Exercise, chill and relax. You should have fun even when you’re having a stressful week at work or whatever. Look and appreciate all the wonderful things that life has to offer. There are so many things out there that often go overlooked but they are just so beautiful and they can bring so much happiness if only they were noticed. Harnessing the power of positive thinking can show you these things and you will notice that you will feel lighter and happier with every day.

Positive Thinking and Meditation

A friend of mine has been attending a regular meditation class for a few years and occasionally I ask him how it’s going. He usually says that he finds it beneficial and helps his concentration and general well-being. I had sort of been meaning to actually ask him to take me along to a session for some time, especially a the guy who runs it is a very old musical acquaintance of mine and has just been ordained (if that’s the right word) as a Buddhist monk.

So this week I made the decision to go and find out what it was all about. Now the fact that he’s a buddhist is neither here nor there as far as the mechanics of any type of  meditation process is concerned, it’s just that this class happens to be run along those lines. There are many different types of meditation that you can do, so don’t think there has to be a certain religion/philoshophy/belief system attached to it in order to practice it.

We all sat on black mats and small cushions or actual kneeling stools to start with and got comfortable. Once in position everyone closed their eyes and the monk rang a pair of small chimes three times. I wasn’t sure what this was about  but assumed it was to signal you to “begin”. Then the monk gave us a few directions as to how to get ourselves into the correct meditative state. He told us to concentrate on our breathing. gentle rise and fall of the stomach and the entry and exit of our breath. He said that our thoughts may drift away from this concentration but to accept this and gently bring the thought back to our breathing.

Then silence for what seemed like a long time. My right foot started to go to sleep and I had to do a bit of shifting about. There were various distractions outside and inside the room but you had to divorce them from what was going on internally. The chimes were rung again and we slowly “came out” of our meditation. The monk read a short piece from a zen psychotherapy book, which was interesting, and we then resumed for another meditation session. This time I knelt on the cushion and was a bit more comfortable. When the session finished and we packed the bits and pieces away and my first real meditation experience was over.

So what did I make of it? Overall I found it a very good experience. Initially it was a little uncomfortable and you did find you thoughts wandering all over the place. Apparently this diminishes with practice and is the hardest thing to overcome for beginners. After the first session I did seem more relaxed in mind, less so in body, and after the second session felt the other way round as if my mind had “overdone it” a bit. I guess if you are new to this the periods of silence can seem very long as they are 20-30 minutes each.

But the next day I definitely felt a positive difference in mood and general calmness. I am fairly convinced it must have been to do with the meditation but it’s hard to say after only doing it once. I will be going again as I suspect that meditation is something that you need to learn to get maximum benefit from, and is a life long pursuit. I certainly felt more positive the following day so really cannot see any downside to practicing it-it can only do you good if done regularly. Give it a try!

6 Ways To Create A Positive Mental Attitude

1. “Instead of thinking about what you’re missing, try thinking about what you have that everyone else is missing.” Appreciate all the things and people around you. Learn to stop saying “I’ll be happy when this thing happens to me” or “I’ll be happy when I buy that” because to be honest, you can be happy now. Look around you, you already have so much to be thankful for and be happy for.

2. “These then are my last words to you. Be not afraid of life. Believe that life is worth living and your belief will help create the fact.” This is a quote from William James. The key to having a positive mental attitude is to start believing in your thoughts, your abilities, your dreams and yourself. It actually makes all the difference when you start believing. You learn that you can get what you want when you desire it with all your heart and mind.

3. William Allen White once said “I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today.” Do not be afraid to take risks, try doing something new everyday. You can try out a new restaurant in town or even just taking another route to work or school. Challenge yourself and do not let yourself get into a rut.

4. Always try to get what you love or you will be forced to love what you get. Figure out what you enjoy in life. Who knows, you might be able to make money out of whatever you love doing.

5. Keep yourself healthy. A healthy body can actually keep you happy. You can also see things differently when you are relaxed as compared to when you are stressed out. You see things clearly when you aren’t stressed so try to chill before you make decisions. Exercise also promotes the release of endorphins which makes you feel happy.

6. Get to know yourself. Know what keeps you motivated, what keeps you happy, what your strengths and weaknesses are. Then love yourself for what you are. Even if you want to change things about yourself, the first thing you should do is to accept who you are.
